I forgot how good Biggie was

On the low though, I know we all can admit that we can some what put jay over big. Let's be kinda real

Idk Jay's done a lot of things to damage his brand after he dropped his classics. To be real, there's a chance BIG would have done that too after the 90's. Nobody can keep up a 20+ year career without making some missteps, but Jay's clearly motivated by profit and has compromised his art many times for that breh. That's my opinion on it.

There's just something about Jay's music that seems like microwaved Biggie's music. When you listen to a song like nikkas Bleed, and listen to the buildup and the tension of the lyrics and how it relates to the beat... you realize it's really unbeatable.

took me 19 years to appreciate that song.

And yeah, GREAT point....Jay is basically Biggie-lite. I mean he has his undeniable & incredible moments, but overall, he has no "nikkas Bleed"'s in his catalog. Although I think his voice lacks the umph/authority that BIG's voice commanded, so that's part of Jay's lack.

but like someone said in a review once, Biggie came into the game fully formed as a rapper. He had no rusty demos or growing pains as a rapper.

Really great storyteller. Had incredible peaks. I prefer PAC and jay though, I think their best work carries more gravitas and soul, even though BIG was more gifted than them. PAC and jay to me, at least Dead Presidents 2 jay, their voices are more humane sounding to me.

I rediscovered his 1st two albums last month. And I've had them both since they were new 20+ yrs ago. But I was a kid then.

Now I listen as an adult and they're amazing.

Nas is the ONLY comparable MC in that department as far as storytelling goes, but don't sleep on Joe Budden either. Joe has that wordplay that just paints pictures as good as biggie did as well as Royce da 5'9". But clearly that is what's missing in hip hop today is that STORY TELLING!! Biggie was a master of it and we were robbed of many more classics to come! Still can't get over it till this day!!

Biggie was a beast on the mic. I always liked the way he would throw you off and only rhyme two words in the second bar. Listen to the song Big Poppa you'll know what I'm talking about.

Big has been my favourite emcee for so long its stupid. I can always listen to his music.

I think the way music gets recycled today has helped keep Big up to date. The quality concept blend/mixtapes show Biggies 95 Live flow could still shyt on contempories in 2016-2017.

I no longer listen to RTD and LAD as seperate bodies of work, I now have a playlist of the two sequenced like a film. "Frank White K.O.N.Y"

The 1st side is a somewhat stripped down RTD plus features and freestyles from that time, Runnin (Original), Who Shot Ya, Come on Mutherfukkers, Dead Wrong, Rap Phenom, Get Money (and remix) One More Chance Remix, Flava in Ya remix, all that good shyt.

I start with Suicide thoughts blend that in to the OG RTD intro and with Big coming out of the pen talking bout "I got big plans" I blend that in to the the epic Road to Riches freestlye. Starts grimey and as the first side finishes Frank is becoming a Don and his lifestyle is changing, Big Poppa etc

2nd half is LAD plus Only You remix, Victory (Blue Eyes Remix = No Puffy or Screaming Busta!), Benjamins, Young G'z (without Puff).

To keep in line with the movie feel, this half is Frank dealing with life on top of the pile. Still riding the wave of success, (Benjamins, Mo Money) even optimism and reflection, (Miss U, Skys The Limit) But Frank realises getting to the top isnt even the hard part. Unable to escape the pitfalls of his past Frank laments that even with more money than hes ever had and the world at his feet that no matter what he does, he wont get the recognition he wants until he is no longer alive.

This realisation is the start of his end. Art then mirrors life and what should have been his Victory lap ends up instead being hsi Downfall.
