I was impressed Saturday when I got a notification from Google Now that I had a dinner reservation at 6:30 and that I had to leave by 6:00 to get there on time.

That is odd. My GPS & WIFI are almost always off and Google Now will still tell me about local events and restaurants...

It may be that Google turns them on for a few seconds sporadically to gather this info or that it can be gather using 4g / LTE / 3G.

Same for me. Im always notified of nearby events and places to go on the regular. Never have any issues with my battery life either.

No battery drain issue on the Note 2. GPS is on at all times and google now of course is constantly running. I can still go about a day with moderate to heavy usage and not worry about my phone dying.

Yea this shyt is great on Android. It automatically tells me how many miles I ran in a month, tracks my items bought on eBay and amazon, tells me what the traffic coming and going to work looks like, what restaurants are in my area that I might like, and lets me know when my flight is late or alternative flights to take. shyt is really genius and actually useful compared to Siri.

yo what app do you use to track the miles you ran? or does it not matter it will just pick the information up on its own?

And like someone else said i dont like it being so fukkin nosy and really compiling all my business, habits and whereabouts on everything and i have no idea how it works or where they do and dont take information from.. but they been doing that shyt google and facebook been nosy and keeping all information you give it so at least now i can benefit from it and see what they actually have on me.. god forbid i have to go on the run for some odd reason i can know what they know about me and do the opposite

Not if it can't connect to an wifi access point. So, like I said above, if you travel out of the state with location/gps off and no available wifi access points you will not get relevant location information. Google Now uses Wifi first, location/gps information second, and if all else feels just uses whatever region your address is in. It has no other ways to pull location info.

I'll check out the power save feature.

nikka stop, if Microsoft came up with this youd be all :hype: :hype: :hype:

No actually I wouldnt. The very reason that Microsoft doesn't do this is part of the reason that I like them. Remeber, M$ actually makes its money by selling its software. Remember the days when companies used to make money by simply making a product and selling it?

It's not an app really its just baked into the program. Play with the cards section and I'm sure it will show up. The first day of every month I get a notification that shows a little orange graph and the total number of miles I ran. Hell even when I get off work its lets me know the best routes to take and if its an accident on the freeway. Clutch as fukk.

:what:

You don't need GPS on for Google now..

Wait so how does it work then? MAGIC?!?!??

I never said it was it's only way. It tries to determine your location using Wifi first. But where do you think Google goes for location if it can't find it through a wifi access point? GPS.

Or maybe it's magic?

When you decide to use Google Now, you're also turning on location reporting and location history. Google Now also uses location information provided by Google’s location service and GPS, if those are currently turned on.

Nope. It's GPS. So if I turn off location to save battery. I HAVE to turn off GPS. Otherwise Google will use it and drain the battery.

@joesixpack Please don't talk while grownups are talking. :krs:

wifi isn't that readily available if you travel a lot. not everyone is always home or in their home state.
