androids are better because they are more accessible and you can open the phone up more and customize it to your liking. The only thing about Iphones is that a lot of people have them and it sucks when all your friends have iphones and they fukkin imesage and shyt and you don't get their messages.
Long story short, either one will hold you down but just get the one your friends or people you talk a lot have. If you do go android don't cheap out either, there are a lot of phones that suck ass that look cool and cheap. Stick with the Galaxy S line or some of HTCs phones.
