Just to update but I'm actually in the job search process now b/c I'm finished with classes and just gotta propose and defend. Got a couple of options but I have to take my parents into consideration b4 I make that move.

They NOT movin overseas
They NOT movin to anyplace too cold
They NOT movin too far from the south.

I got an offer for a tenure-track position at Univ of British Columbia...My heart doin flip flops...

But my parents looking at me like
I also got a nice offer in Las Vegas, but I like gambling too much. My ass would lose my mind.In my heart of hearts I wanna work at an HBCU and start a culturally responsive system of lab schools for blk boys and girls who have been and are being failed by K-12 education system. But this shyt is SO political. It makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

I am sure you will defend your dissertation very well and get your Ph .D! I just had a relative of mine receive his Doctorate in Business Administration recently and have another relative who received her Ed.D a few years ago.

Not to get too personal but are your parents dependent on you to take care of em? Why isyour decision to select a location across the country heavily weighed on them? Just curious

No worries. My family and I are very close. My parents are older as well. They are 73 and 70. I relish in the opportunity to be their caretakers when they become dependent and my earnings will be able to help them transition into retirement in two more years. So even tho they are doing okay right now on their own, I anticipate them needing more of a direct presence in the next five years. I've been stacking money to buy my first home and have enough to build a connecting wing for them b/c I believe in multigenerational living. But all of that means I can't go crazy accepting Osaka University job offers. So I'm a bit limited in my mobility.
