I don't know what you experienced, but I saw this and still see it to this day. I knew a lot of Dominicans that would not say, "I'm not black, I'm Hispanic". Now if you ask them about their white side they would be more than happy to elaborate. I knew a Dominican chick last semester who is clearly black, and has the body of a black woman. Anyways she would always say that she is not black, but Dominican. At the same time she would be quick to let you know of her Russian ancestry.

The very definition of anecdotal evidence and why it's unreliable hearsay.



Now if someone here said "I don't know what you experienced, but I knew a lot of black people who would say I'm not black, I'm Native American...." the entire site would rightly call bullshyt on the legitimacy of that comment.

I told her I'm a black woman. She got put off by that. She's like "you're black ". Her thinking was, I had less kinky hair than hers, a slimmer nose, but I still claimed my black ancestry proud which made her shocked. I even had my Lion of Judah along with the continent of Africa tattoo visibly showing. They were and still are extremely conditioned so I don't really fixate on them. It's like oh well. I have no problem with Afro Latinos, they're a part of the diaspora to me, but if they don't want to identify who am I to stop them?

Puerto Ricans are mad cool and don't be on that for the most part. I don't know why Dominicans in Boston be like that. Haitians are my favorite. Haitians in Mattapan and Dorchester are the sweetest and nicest people. All them old ass ladies be treating me like a long lost grand child.

I grew up in Miami and saw this mess A LOT. Many Hispanics including the black Hispanic look down at black people. I saw it ALL THE TIME.

If I see you as an individual as Black, but you choose to tell me youre not, then logic should tell me youre looney and in need of extensive therapy.

But if an entire island feels that way, then no amount of psychological intervention can help.

So begging dominicans to identify with us is ultimately stupid and in vain, and degrading since it highlights our severe lack of pride.
If people had any pride in being Black, youd be sick to your stomach around Black deniers and never associate with them again.

Theres people with 1/4 African blood telling us theyre Black, but a dominican that looks straight Angolan says he isn't? How do you even tolerate being around that level of thinking? The one dominican I was cool with was straight, but also had that 'spain is everything' at times..

EXACTLY.....What makes me believe that they don't like being called black is how quick they are to embrace their Spanish/white ancestry. I always see them saying I'm not black, but they will be quick to tell you about their non black ancestry.
