Yo @goatmane I seriously thought that was you writing at first. :picard:

Honestly there are plenty of people who feel this way. You have to remember that X% of people in every situation are a$$holes. Most people will really look out for their family (I had a friend in school who LOVED his down's syndrome brother more than anything in the world no matter how much extra responsibility it gave him), but not everyone like that. The same people who are a$$holes in any normal family might also be a$$holes in a family with an autistic sibling.

Jesus Christ I almost thought this was about OP for a second.

that’s tough... damn. His parents should have done a better job of giving him a normal life and placing so much of the burden on him.

he should have also stood up to his parents so he can make his own decisions, have friends, a girlfriend, play sports etc.

I don’t think y’all should be too hard on the poster.

They are 20 years old and a great burden has been placed on them unwillingly.

I don’t think he really wants his brother to die.

My brother is autistic.. I've had many fights with my mother about it.

She can't handle him on her own either but trys too.

It's fukking hard... I definitely don't hate him or wish he was dead. But life was a lot easier and my mother's mental health was in tact before him smhh

My sympathy to those in this situation, what can be done to make the situation better? Government support etc.

what was their response?
My dad was understanding.
My mom was not, but I expected that.
She had a brother that had cerebral palsy, and spent a lot of her childhood helping look after him.

I dont blame her for being upset about it, but its my life.
I didnt have a choice as a child, but I do as an adult.

I ended the convo by saying that I am capable of living a full life, and he is not.
Therefore it makes no sense for me to make huge sacrifices and create a huge detriment on my life, in order to make a miniscule improvement to his.
She had no response after that, and left it alone.

Got family friends who are successful funeral home owners. They have a severely autistic son, they put him in one of those homes:yeshrug: Between running a business and having 4 other children they just couldn’t deal with him. He’s like 30, Been there since early teens

They go visit him and take him on family outings tho:manny:

Yeah , i been reading on what might cause autism and some docs have said things like
low iron , polluted air and the pregnant woman using drugs...i imagine that includes weed as well.
drug use is a huge stretch

autistic kids are not born to substance abusers on average by any wide margin. autism is prevalent in even muslim communities with the strictest of social norms. couldn't be further off the mark. these kids can come from anyone in any demographic there's no observable patterns of that nature.

They needed to put him in a group home and arrange visits.. That's the only way. if they parents don't want him to go to a group home then they need to do the caring for and leave the other brother out..

But the writer also sounds a fakkit...

Also, I sympathize if you’re black, raising a child with autism. We already have a huge strike against us being black out of the womb. Adding a disability just makes it 10 times harder.
