so i'm in line at the store, waiting to approach the sales clerk. while behind a few others, i'm fumbling through my pocket and pull out a knot of twenties. i had about $300 on me. i was counting it, and noticed that $40 was missing. so i kept counting it, reaching the same conclusion each time - i was short $40. anyway, i'm inching closer to the register while doing this, and before i go up to make my purchase the woman before me collects her receipt, turns towards me and smiles while walking away. i lay my stuff on the register and turn to look at her, noticing that she just picked something up from the ground. i didn't think much of it, but someone behind me poked me and said, "yo, did you drop some money? i think that lady just picked it up."
part of me wanted to run after her and ask her if she snatched my $40 from the ground. the other part of me said, "damn, take this L and be more careful in the future." i took the L, but i'm still mad at that grimy bytch. anytime i've seen someone drop something, be it money or a wallet, i've always returned it to them.
Why didn't you confront her? She probably would have given it back to you if you asked.
