From my understanding, gentrification is engineered by property owners and elected officials, but by what means? Rent hikes?
Gentrification is as natural as sex.

Its what happens when people dont own the places they live in.

There were always white people in Western Queens

This. I don't know what OP is talking about.

Sounds to me you don't really travel outside of Bronx and Manhattan OP. Queens in general has always had white people in it.

Ridgewood in queens always been white or non black

Its a suburb with nice houses

Dk what you expected
I don't go there that often. I wouldn't necessarily know I live in hunts point and work in midtown. It seemed there were more Spanish folk out there than anyone else.

You know who I'm talking about though...I hate using this word but "hipsters". They an eyesore.

I spent time in DC and seen the same type of OD entitled gentrification happen there. The worse part is unlike NYC, Boston, Philly, etc. there don't even be any cacs born and raised there so it's ALL transplants that take up space, disrespect the long time residents, and make for a nauseating atmosphere.

I dipped out to Philly and haven't looked back. They can have that cesspool of 7-11's, bad food, and corny yuppies.

Hell
anyone feel maybe cacs are trying to push minorities as a whole or lower income cats to the Midwest since it gets less coverage and attention as the big cities (LA, NY, MIA)?

Wouldn't that make more sense, get broke folks in Miss and make them kill each other, lesser police present, lesser money spent on the city as a whole and attend to those with the money.

I'm still 50/50 with "gentrification"

I see positives but there are also negatives.

I hate how all the old buildings and businesses are being torn down for generic condos or chain stores and banks.

HOWEVER, I do appreicate how they are building more parks, and cleaning up the area while getting rid of abandoned buildings and "hood" shyt.

I know NYC(and many bog cities across North America) is losing its street cred more and more...but its getting safer, and the older I get and having kids, my priorities are changing and better schools and safer neighbourhoods for my kids mean more to me than street shyt.
But, at the end of the day, if I can't afford to live there then it doesn't matter to me.
