It seems to me that Christianity, and religion as a whole, became a scapegoat for certain deeply human vices, just like political partisanship, bigotry and many other paradigms.

Some people attribute exclusively to religion the same delusion, cognitive biases, cruelty, warmongering,... that express themselves through humans whatever they believe in, as shown throughout history.

Maybe it's too much to accept that as a species, we just have inherent cognitive flaws. Or maybe it is a cognitive flaw in itself to believe that simplistic categories, such as religious belief or political affiliation, taken in a vacuum, can help us establish a legitimate view of how people think.

Exactly, they don't get that being a non practicing Christian isn't enough, being an open Atheist is a very different mentality. That's rare but I don't think a person should compromise when it comes to religion.

Romans referred to Christians in that manner back in the 1st Century, but that's invalid now. Atheists don't believe in a 'deity', theists do.

That's incorrect. Christians don't have to practice anything. They are required to believe 3 things: 'G-d' exists, is 'revealed' in 3 'persons' (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), and that Jesus is the Son who died for the sins of man. That's it.​

'Lack of Faith' isn't special. Trees, pencils, infants, dogs and cats, orangutans, elephants, ants, etc., don't have 'faith'. Most people aren't coerced to say they're religious, either. They're convinced by evidence in the same manner you are, they just reach a different conclusion.​
