This shyt was fire!!!! :ohlawd: At the beginning I was like :rudy: because Hov was just doing Big Daddy Kane type braggadocio. But the rest of the album was :fire:

This album was really ahead of it's time in terms of production. The only thing that's dated about it is Hov's rapping tbh.

First we had a thread the other day about some rock-underdwelling brotha just seeing Menace II Society for the first time... now another sheltered square just now hearing Dead Presidents.

Salute for at least having enough sense to like it but where the hell are all you sheltered squarebobs coming from :what:

I tried to rationalize it that way as well.. it's just that when I too was young, I still could quote scenes from Erik B. and Rakim and had seen Cooley High a million times.

I think my poorly delivered bigger point was that Black culture and the way Black youngsters are brought up, is fading.

Not just because he'd never heard "reasonable doubt", but because there'd never been some older brother, cousin, father, brotha on the block, who felt it neccessary to make/influence him to hear it.

It's along the same vein as the "soul food" thread or whatever.. OP listed a bunch of soul foods and asked how many people still know how to make those dishes outside of our grandmas.

It was a sobering truth. :wow:
