I think what he means to say is that amongst his peers he was at the forefront of using stems in his field

Ohhh he means he invented extracting stems from fully mixed songs

He didn’t invent stems but his passion for the technical side of producing is damn near unmatched. Probably was on of the first producers amongst his peers that got real technical with filtering out vocals and bass lines and shyt. I think people was more looking for clean loops instead of focusing on EQing certain elements out. You got sounds like low end theory where they gonna put a low pass on the sample and the baseline gonna be muddy. But I think he talking about grabbing the drums or baseline and making it sound clean

There is a Scratch Magazine interview from around the time his Trauma album came out (05 ish) where he’s talking about audio isolation. He mentioned doing it on the Truth Hurts joint he did with Dre for the drum break. He said he was trying to patent it but I never heard anybody mention that type of technology again until years later when K Def was doing it. Quik always been ahead

Edit: I corrected myself, I posted this mad early my bad

old mp3 player apps back in the day used to have these 'vocal remover' plugins that would basically collapse the stereo wave and cut out frequencies from 900hz-1400hz to get rid of the vocal track. it sounds stupid but it actually worked like 40% of the time!

i know its not the same as stems but it just reminded me of that lol

i respect analog recording (thats how i learned) but you can do so much crazy shyt with digital, its no wonder theres hardly any analog studios left. you could do that sort of thing by hand... but who would want to?

He just says sh*t sometimes that's mad off the wall and weird, there's no way he even believes it, lol. He has a lot of insecurities when it comes to Dre because people have lifted Dre so much over the years. Seems like he always felt he should be in that conversation, even though he doesn't have the catalogue. Dude's a legend, but he's been bitter for so long, it makes it hard to listen to him in interviews 1/2 the time.

nikka might as well said he invented sounds. Cause wtf does a stem represent. He should have said I was one of the first to start tracking out the beat

He could've said that, but that would've been a lie too, lol.

I just think bro never seems content with his place in the game. His interviews always turn into how he's been overlooked, even though he taught this one and that one about whatever. Daddy-O does the same sh*t in his interviews. Talks about how he was the first one to discover everybody but never got the credit.

Yeah his music has long fallen off a long time ago but his interviews were the one thing I would still check for but the last few interviews of his I’ve seen in recent years have been hard to watch because he always seems disgruntled and mad

Correction, this is the song Quik did it on. This joint is from 2002 and no one has got this break sounding this nice before or again.

"I took the breakbeat from 'Do It (Til You're Satisfied),' which everybody has tried to sample but can never get that clean.
"So I did this trick that I have that I invented called interior dynamics, some shyt that I made up—Patent Pending"

He definitely has that disgruntled vibe now.

Sometimes he'll say weird sh*t on social media and try to start rumors about how certain people didn't really produce joints, and it was actually him that did the record. Then people will run with it, and then he'll come back and try to deny he alluded to whatever, lol. Dude's not happy.

Yup

Yeah started noticing him do that too, and he’ll flip flop about the rumor

And he always gets into it with all of his friends. One minute their his best friends and then the next their his enemies and then their his best friends again

I wouldn't be surprised if he was bipolar. He's always been kinda erratic at times

Plus, might even have ptsd. He did run over a kid with his car back in the 90s :francis:
