Going to Rio and Sao Paulo it's good to know some portuguese beforehand but not really required, Salvador you should definitely know a sizeable amount of portuguese or you will have a bad time.

Yes you have to keep your head on a swivel especially in places like lapa and copa but funnily enough the favelas like rochina and vidigal felt way safer

Nightlife is tough, I would say download the shotgun app that's where I found most of the parties I went to. lapa has a strip with clubs/bars same with copa and leblon. They have nightlcub called casa black in Madureira.

Restaurant recs I can't help you with I eat as I go, just hit up tiktok and search must visit restaurants in rio

broski you have lived in america for too damn long I have had women approach me in Japan, Bali, Nigeria, Jamaica, and even the UK.

I had a running buddy who was happily married. went to Rio one time for business in the 2010s… within 5 years he was speaking fluent Portuguese and had a whole other family in Salvador….Brazilians a dangerous place…obrigado
