I just came to the realization that

I don't want what most people consider the American dream i.e. Wife/husband, nice house, one or two kids, being a home maker or going to work everyday to support a family

I'm really not feeling that kind of life now....I don't get it....yeah I was raised in a two parent household, my parents are still married and most of the people in my family are either married or planning on getting married and living this "American Dream" but its just not for me....I don't know if its because I'm still young (22 yrs old) but I don't see myself getting married, having kids, settling down, buying a house etc in the future.

My girlfriend (20 yrs old) recently got married to her boyfriend, same with most of my friends, either married or in a long term relationship and ready to settle down.


Is something wrong with me? Am I weird for feeling this way?

Nope, I don't want kids and I'm not in a rush for marriage. I believe that's something you think about when you're in the right position.. And we're definitely still young.

Not at ALL! You just took the red pill. Nothing wrong with that! There's a TON of people in our generation headed down the same path. Life's not a race to reach prescribed checkpoints, it's a journey that involves discovery of self and of the world around you.

When all is said and done, you won't be a lonely person. From foregoing a traditional life, you wind up giving yourself the opportunity for the following:

• Career Mobility
• Rich friendships with people in your situation
• Ability to travel and see the world as you see fit
• Ability to cultivate romantic relationships with a wide variety of people
• The ability to develop tons and tons of cool life skills
• The eventual realization that after meeting the people you've met over the years, you were never lonely, just perhaps confused as to why you were happy going your own way.

Do your thing. People who judge negatively simply don't understand.

Exactly, Yeah I'm going to finish school and get this degree but I want to live my life....I really wish I was able to take a year or 2 off before entering college so I can travel the world and live life...its so many places I want to visit, so many people I want to help, so many things I want to experience in my lifetime and settling down in 10 yrs to raise a family isnt on my list at all.

Not at all. I didn't want most of that either (still not interested in some of it lol). Things shift over time as you get older anyway; some might stick, some might not.

But don't let anyone (including family) make you feel bad. It's just not for you.

thought i could do the 4 year get yo degree fanstasy
to me they aint me i cant just put my head in a book for 4 years and think imma be good after that

everything in life is a hustle thats how you gotta look at it
school,work, pretty much life period is a hustle
what can you get out of it?

people think that shyt be gauranteed but it aint
im all for life experiences in general
traveling, meeting different people, helping young nikkas do something with they life.

i cant just sit still and put my head in a book
or just clock in and out the rest of my life
it might be a point in time for that but right now that aint me

i take like 1 or 2 classes a semester cuz i do wanna finish school
but to me it aint gone make or break me
i aint tryna settle down and get to work like the rest of alot of people

whats the point of living to have a degree?
to work all day everyday for a wack ass pension
its people out here gettin rich and reaching success cuz they took chances real talk

if you knwo it aint in you to settle dont do it real talk
do what you want BUT remember everybody need a backup plan
thats all a degree is imo a backup plan

Exactly how I'm feeling...at first I was only going to school to appease my parents but now I'm going to school for me because I know I can't make it in this world without at least one or 2 degrees under my belt

I feel that I was put on this Earth to help the less fortunate anyway I can as well tho. There are also a lot of things I want to learn that I know a school can't teach me

Also, I am in no way shytting on those who are living "The American Dream" but its just not for me

you're 22 tho... i'd think the majority of kids from this generation would think the same thing... its cute to be the one friend who doesnt have a relationship/spouse when you're in your 20s... when you're in youre 30's its a different deal...

Travelling is awesome dont get me wrong and i appreciate the placed ive been able to go... but people act like its a goal in life to travel... its an experience... thats fleeting... eventually you come home and you have to move on...

when you find the right dude and you've lived the good life throughout you're 20s i think you might reconsider.
