I used to hate all of that conscience rap they had on the radio in the early 90s. I'd be thinking as a shorty, "y'all nikkas are using a lot of big words and analogies you know nothing about, just trying to pass on as being intelligent." :rudy:

If I wanna be educated I'll go read a book, not listen to some no-named rapper's bullshyt.

Also there is a difference between not rappin about ignorant shyt and being conscious... i like ignorant shyt as much as the next man, but I also am entertained by rap skills. Most them trap niccaz got no skills...

I like conscious rap

Just that fans tend to disqualify certain artists from that label and in turn songs that imo are conscious

I like conscious rap..hell I even dig bold conscious rap...but what Im not a fan of is self righteous rap

Like Jay Z's "Regrets" is a conscious song to me..one of the most conscious songs to me...

Now conscious in the sense of making music based on u being conscious on world issues is cool but without being self conscious with ur own issues it seems self righteous and which I said..Im not a fan of that.

Now I may not be a fan of what most ppl consider conscious rap but :yeshrug:

w/e

I like both "types" of rap

Ull catch me throwing onsome ratchet ass Lil B when a nikka just tryna let loose and have fun
Catch me puttin on some conscious sht if i wanna recollect and think about me and my issues and life and sht
Or ull just catch me throwin something on that appeals to me outside of the subject matter

fukk it...I wont pretend like music doesnt affect my mood and whatnot but at the end of the day...Its music...

If u dnt enjoy "conscious" rap it doesnt rly say much about ur character or intelligence..it just means u just dont enjoy it simple..

My music tastes dont define me and I dnt make an effort to change my tastes to fit a certain mold or portray a certain image to ppl(Im talkin to u stuck up"real hip hop" ppl)

Now fukk up if u got an issue :pacspit:

As others said, I need some shyt that knocks when Im in the car.

I only listen to "conscious" rap when Im at the house by myself, otherwise the bars just kinda go in one ear and out the other.

i hate how that type of rap will get thrown on a pedestal all because it is "real" :beli:

fukk i care bout all that, entertain me nikka :birdman:. And they aint solvin shyt either, just a bunch of preachin bout whats wrong with their hood and all the struggles that happen but don't offer a thing as far as how to improve it. Just a buncha pretentious bullshyt trying to pass as intelligent and deep

I don't like rappers whose whole shtick is that knowledge shyt. Talib Kweli for example has always been wack as fukk to me and rappers like that always come off as forced and unauthentic.

I like honest rappers who touch on that conscious shyt while still being themselves ie; songs like this:

I fukked with old school groups like X clan, Brand Nubian, ATCQ, etc...but after the early 90's all that shyt came off as forced and pretentious as fukk to me. Wu-tang were the first dudes to toe that fine line between street and consciousness and they will always be legends for that.

The problem today is that it's not that these new rappers are all ignorant, it's that they are fukking WACK and aren't contributing anything to the game but noise.
