Always fight it. There's always a chance that the cop doesn't appear and it's automatically dismissed. In my experiences, fighting it (with a good driving record) will lower it from a moving violation to a parking ticket. Less money and won't go against your insurance. Plus it buys you some time to come up with the cash if you end up having to pay in full.
