I got a Lenovo Thinkpad running Windows 7, core i5 and it's going strong for 2 years solid now. Of course I don't do stupid shyt with the laptop and I have up to date virus software that I monitor religiously but a laptop is only as good as it's user once you get out of the low budget territory of 200-300 dollar pieces of garbage. It's a lot like owning a car, you have to keep it maintained in order to keep it running for a long time. I never had to reformat or do a fresh install like my last laptop before this one.
-Immediately after you take your laptop out of the box and set it up, burn a recovery disk. This is the most important step for any laptop.
-Buy a quality virus protection software. You don't need a ton of bells and whistles but you need something reliable. This should always be one of the top priorities.
-Don't download and install sketchy shyt. This should be obvious. Try and go to reputable porn sites. Avoid those backwater geocities style sites.
-When pirating, try and get stuff from reputable sources and when torrenting from piratebay, read the reviews. If there is a virus in the torrent, people will generally leave a comment warning you.
-Check out the power settings. Usually there may be an option to help protect your battery if your laptop is plugged in constantly.
-Check your power settings again. You don't need all of the power settings turned up just to watch youtube videos. Adjust your power settings when casual browsing to when you are doing high power intensive gaming.
-Keep your system cool with a laptop cooling pad while it is sitting in your lap/other non-even surface and when your doing intense processes that generate a lot of heat for your system.(such as intense gaming) You can also install software to monitor your system temperatures so you can see what generates a lot of heat. Usually the cooling pad will help keep your CPU from underclocking itself during gaming to avoid damaging itself from the intense heat.
-Clean your vents when they get dirty. You don't have to really disassemble your laptop but taking off the back cover and dusting it GENTLY with compressed air can help.
- I know this doesn't help the performance really but CLEAN YOUR DAMN NASTY ASS LAPTOP!!!
Wipe that shyt down because it has fingerprints all over the screen, dust everywhere, jizz stains, cheetos powder in the keyboard creavices. That's not a good look bruh.
