When was the site hacked by 4****? I was here before then. i remember when the Blueprint dropped on 9/11, and the subsequent Ether Day threads.

Around 2008 or so.

There's been some history revision as far as that being the reason SOHH died....which is false. The site continued on and rebounded nicely until some company bought the site and tried to turn it into a multimedia platform.

Once that failed they refused to maintain the servers, which led to SOHH crashing during All-Star Weekend. After that Brook and cook started talking about a new site.

Fun fact: that's why The Coli is sports themed.

Anyway, as far as the thread, I joined SOHH in 1999 on my Dreamcast browser.

i hate that shyt! i was trying to get in with some local nerds here who developed an operating system based on linux. then they turned around and sold it to a company based out of austin. i cut my ties. i guess the money was good to them.

did you have ethernet or have to dial in with PPP? i never had a dreamcast but i was aware of its abilities. did you run windows CE or linux? i eventually got one much later for emulation on a crt tv. the dreamcast was fascinating to me. how was the browsing experience?

I had dial up through....AT&T I want to say. They had a promotion where you got a free Dreamcast if you signed up for a year (maybe longer, don't remember) of their internet. I was already planning on getting a Dreamcast so the deal was a no-brainer.

Dreamcast ran off a version of Windows CE.

As far as the experience, I can't say it was better or worse than anything in 1999 because I had next to no knowledge of the internet, PCs, etc. at the time. What little browsing I did, was at the local library for 30 minutes at a time, and that was extremely rare. The Metro (bus) depo was downtown so while we were waiting between buses to go to the mall or whatever occasionally we'd pop into the library to kill time. If a computer was open (again, this was very rare) we'd f*ck around on it. There was a lot of college kids in there so they were always being used.

For what it's worth I couldn't really tell the difference between the PCs in the library, and browsing on the Dreamcast. But my sample size was small.

I got a PC around 2001 or so, and then I had cable internet.

I joined SOHH as a teenager

My first post on the forum was in a Big / Pac debate. Off some “why can’t we like both?”

Someone told me to shut up.

Ppl in my city used to link up from the board in real life and they were real regular / movers & shakers / beautiful women (I was younger than most but this one would pop by my crib once in awhile to check on me, because she knew/dated the older guys from my street)

Same username. And join date was…

2000 (or early 2001) :sadcam:

Amazing. Or sad (jk lol)
