I'm a novice when it comes to betting, why are some.spreads have the plus sign while other have that minus

the + indicates the underdog, and the - the favorite.
example.. Indy vs SF(-10.5) is the line for this week. Using the + sign is the a way to write the same thing.
example..Indy(+10.5) vs SF

there's no real reason why one would use one over the other.
