:hubie: Personally i would had tried to find a place to stay at for a year, over paying for a hotel every month.
Did you not see the two links I posted? The amount of people I communicated with? Don't you think that it would behove me if I visited a place first before making a one-year or two-year commitment? Did you not see the prices I was paying while at the staying at the hostel near the University? What about the neighborhood? Or proximity to nightlife or a decent central location? In what about the amenities that I would be forced to purchase? What if I liked the Northern region more than the Greater Accra or Ashanti region? Hasn't that dawned on anyone before paying 1 or 2 year rent up-front? This ain't the US, they want everything in cash.

thinking you might’ve done better updating your thread over on L2H. dudes had questions in that thread and the response would’ve been more positive cause you’re talking about an older more mature group of dudes who are familiar with you.

I did. I actually copy and pasted from there but no traction.

This is just a critique. I can't tell you that you won't find all of that there and more but that's what I thought until I saw the reality.

For example, most of us from big and major cities are used to seeing homeless people and bums ask for money but one thing that caught me by surprise is there you will see normal, able-bodied men who will be somewhere and who pick up on your American accent then will start a conversation with you all fine and dandy only to ask you for money. These guys are not trying to pick you up or I try to rob you or finesse you or anything like that but because they hear your American accent, they think you are stranger would give them money. These dudes will notice you if you frequent a place will come talk to you trying to befriend you only for you to buy them drinks. I'm not talking about bumming a cigarette off of you— no I'm talking about buy this drink for me bro. You would think women would do that, right? Not in Ghana. Help make sense of that.
Whats the reaction when you say no? Is it pretty easy otherwise to socialize or create contacts without coming out of pocket?
This might go without saying but can you expect to overpay in most transactions as a foreigner?
Is there large law/govt presence in everyday life?

I want to visit Ghana. I had a friend in college from Togo, but in retrospect, I didn't take advantage of the opportunity to ask him as much as I should have about his country. Can anyone speak on there as well?

I say no with this face on: :demonic:

And that's that. People need to understand that a lot (I want to say most but I won't for now) AAs look Nigerian. You won't understand until you've been here for a few weeks. Ghanaians may talk shyt but usually don't have any smoke. I never tell people I'm American. I tell them Benin and people tighten up. Since I've been in Colombia and Ghana, it's automatic that I BARGAIN AND HAGGLE! You'll only be finessed if you don't bargain. Most people don't understand the art of walking away and looking at them with the stone face.:unimpressed: This is why I left Accra. You get to see the real people doing and living the real way when you leave that city. Most of y'all want to be on the beach and resorts so you can stunt for the Gram and YouTube but me? I'm in the trenches.:birdman:

Apartments & Self Contain for rent in Accra | Tonaton.com

Might be your best starting point. Compare and contrast. Search other cities outside Greater Accra for a better analysis. All and all. You shouldn't be paying American prices, even for fully furnished listings but it also depends where in the US you say. LA, NYC and SF rents will think ALL of the prices are bargains and highway-robberies while those in the Midwest and South might look a little harder. No internet isn't bad but don't look for cable let alone fiber. IDK if thats a viable option but I didn't need it so... The best thing to do IMO is to cop the MTN data plan for 399 cedis that will give you 205GB. No time limits. Then use your phone as a hotspot if it has the capability.

As for the sisters: one man's trash is another man's treasure. We have different tastes and you might be in heaven but you're not going to find the IG afrocentric (not slay queens) broads some of us have been used to seeing.
I am from GH. You didn't see big booty broads there? Or are you saying they just aren't your type?

To be honest I have cousins that have gone to Ghana recently, and they said that they never want to go back :mjlol:. So I actually believe and respect KongoEmpire's experience
Where are your cousins from? And why did they say they would never go back?

They're Ghanaian. Bare power outages- sometimes for multiple days- robberies at night, food poisoning. Things that they likely never experienced in the west. They were with family though and had very limited funds. For some reason, money doesn't seem to go too long down there. Almost everytime I have family that are in Ghana, they ask for some money

Of course I do. I just wasn't prepared for all the bleaching (and it monstrous side effects really) and bad hair-hats. But's not a Ghanaian or an Afrikan issue, it's a so-called Original issue.

Yeah the power outages are ridiculous. I’m glad my fam uses a generator. The fun things in Ghana are expensive.
