Great flick, jude law was great in this, so is Matt damon and the whole cast, I'll probably put this in the classic category. A must watch. The cinematography so beautiful.

Watched this flick this morning for the first time in over a decade. Still holds up as a great movie. It's still Jude Law's best performance, but man does Hoffman make great use of every single second he's on screen. That first scene alone, the way he steps out the ride and INHALES that drink. You just know he's about to fukk Tom's whole world up.

I loved PSH early in his character actor bag when he only got a few scenes (Talented Mr. Ripley, Boogie Nights, Magnolia) but owned the screen every time he was on camera. One of the 5 best actors of my lifetime.

Also, I haven't been able to watch, because I can't find it, but Purple Noon from 1963, is the original movie adaptation of Highsmith's novel.
7 year later reply but this is a permanent fixture on The Criterion Channel as it was on Filmstruck and Hulu. So peep it brehs.

havent watched this in a minute. All I really remember is Affleck parodying it on SNL
Matt Damon: Just take it from “It’s a good course.”
Ben Affleck: Oh, now you’re the director.
Matt Damon: Hey shove it, Bounce-boy. Let’s remember who talked who into doing this shyt in the first place. Talking me into Dogma was one thing, but this…
Ben Affleck: Hey look, I’m sorry I dragged you away from whatever-gay-serial-killers-who-ride-horses-and-like-to-play-golf-touchy-feely-picture you’re supposed to be doing this week.
Matt Damon: I take it you haven’t seen Forces of Nature?
Ben Affleck: You’re like a child. What’ve I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him.
[They both take a beat and look at the camera]
And sometimes, you have to go back to the well.
Matt Damon: And sometimes, you do Reindeer Games.
Ben Affleck: See, that’s just mean.

OP should edit the spoilers out. It's a great film and the twists and turns shouldn't be spoiled for those who haven't seen it.

Movie is pretty depressing on some level. On one hand it's a very beautiful film, but watching a lie slowly suffocate someone and take control of their life is not only sad...it'll remind you of your own life, if you have demons in your closet that you know will be let out one day.

You know its on when you see Damon, Law, Paltrow and Hoffman on the poster. :picard:
They were all after the bag in this one. Acting their asses off.:whew:

The movie though weird, dark and long af is a childhood fave. :obama:

Watch the sequel(Ripleys Game) if you must satisfy the inevitable craving after. :salute:
