Robbery
On December 30, 2008, Way was robbed and battered in his home. Initial reports indicated that the robbers were six masked men with AK-47s and pistols but on December 31, 2008, videos surfaced on the Internet of two masked men claiming sole credit for the crime.
[252] Soulja Boy described the incident to MTV News a month later: He had come home very late at night after attending an album release party and was recording songs with friends when the robbers came in pointing their guns.[253] On January 26, 2009 during another interview Way would speak on the incident, clarifying that it was three robbers and not six stating, "I got back to my house at around 3 in the morning and I was in the studio recording. So two of my homeboys was in the living room and Me and Arab we was in the studio recording. And somebody kicked in the door. One dude ran in put the AK to my homeboy head, put him on the floor," he continued. "The other two ran in my homeboy jumped in the other room, so the other two dudes ran back so I peeped in the door and they running through my house with K's and pistol's so I ducked back. I really can't dwell on what happened after that, but it was a messed up situation and I’m glad everyone made it out alive."[254]
On October 14, 2010, during another interview, Way would go more in depth on the incident where he admitted to shooting at the robbers, even hitting two of them. He stated "I'm thinking if I shoot this n****, I can get that gun and shoot all these n****'s at the same time. So I jumped out, shot at the dude four times and missed. He ducked down and ran. He started yelling, so I shot him like two more times. Then he turned around and started running. So I popped his ass like two more times in the back and he hit the floor." Way would also go on to clarify during the interview that he and his label at the time Interscope Records didn't want anybody to know that he had shot somebody due to his younger fanbase, stating, "I really didn’t want nobody to know that I shot somebody. My label didn't want that out there because when the robbery went down I had fans like 9, 10 years old. But being that I'm 20, I don't give a f*** no more. Ain't nobody take s*** from me that night."[255][256] In 2011, Way's documentary movie Soulja Boy: The Movie contained an interview with Way's close friend/manager/Stacks on Deck Entertainment president Miami Mike. During the interview, he spoke about the incident clarifying that two of the three robbers were members of the rap group Show Stoppas, which are a rap group Way had signed to his label Stacks on Deck Entertainment in 2008. Miami Mike would also go on to clarify that he had warned Way about them before the incident and had also told Way he needed to protect himself, stating "And it was real ugly... to make a long story short, Soulja Boy wasn't in the hospital, you know what I'm saying, it was two of them they were held in the hospital, it was two members out the group the Show Stoppas. It was a group he had signed upon his label S.O.D. but it wasn't the whole group. I had warned Soulja Boy about these guys prior to this incident, I said Soulja those dudes are not your friends. So I said man, dog them dudes they crooked man, don't hang around them, they crooked, I said Soulja you need to keep a gun in every room, you know what I'm saying? Go to target practices, man you play Gears of War you need to go get you a real gun and learn how to use it. You a celebrity now and you staying in this big house by yourself, we was trying to keep this stuff out the public eyesight because we want to keep this clear image of Soulja doing the little dance and stuff, but it was so much going on behind closed doors and when these guys supposed to be his friends broke into his house it just was ugly man, he shot one of them five times man."[257][258]
The police report made no mention of any gun fire to have taken place.
