60 is clean until you start pitching stuff, then it gets gritty in the high end, in a nice way. Limited sample time (depending on if you have the memory upgrade or not) forces you to get creative. Emphasizes the low mids, I love it on drums and bass. 3K is smooth, more high end to it, not gritty at all, really nice low pass filter built in, and lots more sample time. Has more of a low end bump than the 60, despite it being cleaner. Both sequencers are very similar, straightforward, and funky.

If you do get a 60, make sure you try to get one with as many upgrades as possible. (SCSI, 3.10e OS, etc.) They're a pain in the ass to get later. I have a 60 I never use cause the floppy drive is busted and I have no SCSI. The replacement prices are insane.

The sound of the Akai s950 wayyyy better than the MPC 60 IMO. The filter is just creamy and the ADSR is nice.

Funny

My girl broke up with me cuz id leave the bed in the middle of the night to head to my studio..

They dont make em like me no more tho

Just buy a mpk for 100 n a laptop.
Mpc is slow as fukk. Time to join the new world. You have more mobility and freedom with software

If you prefer the aound, buy an akai s950 like me and filter your samples thru it

What's a good piece for a breh that's starting out :wow:
You been saying that for over 15 years my man lol

I like the idea of short sample time. Anything more than 30 sec, might as well use a computer.

Have you used the 4000? is that similar to the 3000 sound. I'm trying to like the 3k but not feeling it as a unique experience/sound. I like lofi machine because they have character.

To be honest any of the post Roger Linn Akai Machines are much different, but if I had to pick a favorite next to to the 3K, I'd pick the 4000.
The 4K is much cleaner, like HD clean, you can sample 96 KHZ/24 bit, which is very high for a sampler 15+ years old. That shyt bangs, especially straight off vinyl. You can always down sample and make it sound gritty, and the filters (the 4K has more than any standalone machine I can think of at the moment) are amazing for making shyt sound raw. The effects are bananas too, plenty to give you character. I've been able to get pretty much any type of sound I want out of it. The sequencer is amazing too, not stiff like many of the newer Akai machines.

What’s a good mpc to purchase if it’s your first one?

Nah the 3k had warmest 16bit sound ever. The 4000 is 24bit and cold sounding:scust:
