I can’t recall many dancehall artists bigger than Beenie in recent years.:jbhmm:
  • Some would say Vybz lacks the longevity since career has been suspended.
  • I can make an argument for Buju.
Unless I’m forgetting someone I would have to go back all the way to Shabba and Supercat era to find someone with a catalog that surpasses Beenie IMO.

My girl just said Elephant man…:francis: if Sean Paul ain’t touching Beenie I know ELE not even in the conversation and that’s from someone who loves ELE

Ima have to go SP. Dutty Rock & Stage One are personal classics for me. Pops played the living shyt out of them growing up.

I know SP personally and I am sure he himself would say Beenie Hands down, case closed (Beenie is the King of the Danchall) What he did in the 1990s was incredible, and still looked as the king in jamaica and he will go out with that crown. The closest to Beenie arguably is Bounty Killer who is another artist that is on a level waaaaay over SP. Sean was around from the 90s but his 2000 international breakthrough pushed him to international fame.

Its sad, if Sean Paul performs in jamaica nobody really messes with him, but Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, and Vybz Kartel are the real dancehall heavy hitters.
I’ve read online that Jamaicans don’t really mess with SP like that, is that true ?

I had meet & greet tix backstage for SP last summer, he was mad cool and put on a great show

Yea its true... he is very cool, very rich and if you didnt know him from tv you would never know. How you see him in an interview on tv is how he actually is. He is considered "uptown jamaican" which many places uptown in kingston is money. Jamaican dancehall is a "ghetto" or street music so picture real hip hop to commercial radio back in the days compared to what hip hip lovers would judge hard core groups...its the same how people in jamaica looked at sean paul as a commercial artist

I find Sean Paul way more impressive in a musical sense. Always felt like he was underrated in a way, he has insane instincts to find great melodies and his flow is engaging and hits the pocket in surprising ways. And he has such a distinctive voice.

I do understand picking Beenie over him but his short 2000's run was really dope.
