A lot of the technology in your smart phone was born in DARPA and NASA labs. These tech oligarchs never actually make anything new, they just remix something that already exists or combine parts of different technology into one thing.
As you can see, the last big tech innovation was the smartphone. Since then they've gave us nothing near that big.
