his albums have always bricked despite big red carpet tracklists with who's who of rappers and producers.

of course he does have access to all the producers khaled manages but still, i wouldn't necessarily agree w/ this. he got lex for last album but hey, who didn't. the budgets for his def jam albums looked pretty small actually...i thnk dude has evolved into a pretty decent rapper. i like him better than wayne, actually. he shouldve been on that 'no new friends' single instead.

Ace Hood is 100% a mainstream rapper, he's just a flop. He prob actually had decent management breaking in so maybe he got a good deal with a good marketing budget and the labels just trying to get the albums done so they can get rid of him.

you know, back then... 5 years ago, you had artists who actually did get signed to deals from on the spot freestyles or sending in demo's and didn't drop a buncha mixtapes to get on....all they had were local songs or lucked up and impressed the right person at a talent show case or open mic.

him being backed by Khaled makes no difference... nobody questioned Fabolous being backed by DJ Clue when he first came out. is Fab an industry plant too?

This. Only reason he dropped however many albums he did on Def Jam was because Khaled was president of Def Jam South.

But yeah, the dude makes good singles but he has no star appeal. He's basically not interesting and has nothing that makes him stand out to the point where you would listen to him over rapper x,y or z....
