Ill never forget a couple months ago when somebody recommended this song as an example of modern day R&B:



I checked it out expecting to hear amazing vocals , runs & adlibs over a sultry and soulful background.

But instead I got the opposite. An extremely pop sounding beat with some of the most soulless and amateur sounding vocals you'll ever hear.

Now, it's a cool song and I'm not shytting on the song itself but this is NOT R&B. FAAAAAR from it.

If you consider this R&B I assume you're a 16 year old CAC

Steve Lacey has a song or two I like. This song is better.

He is obviously going for a prince sound with this song.

Also, I said it in another thread. There is tons of dope RnB out there but you have to know where to look. I know it's a tired cliche and I'm not trying to be one of those anti-mainstream try hards but today more than ever, you are not going to find the dope stuff on radio.

I'll be posting some tracks to prove OP wrong. Also, I will agree that if you're looking for Mariah and Whitney you're not going to find it. That's true. But RnB was never just about hitting every octave ever. Most RnB was about making you want to make babies and/or dope instrumentation.
