You are correct. Black artists who do genre work outside of R&B and Hip Hop are always shoehorned into them because racists and other small minded ppl don't think we make pop, rock, etc.

Ill never forget a couple months ago when somebody recommended this song as an example of modern day R&B:
I checked it out expecting to hear amazing vocals , runs & adlibs over a sultry and soulful background.
But instead I got the opposite. An extremely pop sounding beat with some of the most soulless and amateur sounding vocals you'll ever hear.
Now, it's a cool song and I'm not shytting on the song itself but this is NOT R&B. FAAAAAR from it.
