If this is about Kendricks album, even he said it's not a classic, he said he's got to wait 10 years and see if it's a classic.

The Source fukked that shyt up with their reviews, calling all 5 mic albums classics and anything less was not a classic. A 5 mic album is not a classic, how you gonna see if an album is a classic without knowing it's impact on the game, it's longevity.. Like we know now that Chronic 2001 is a classic, but we didn't in 99, it didn't even get 5 mics. And generally it got like 3, 4 mics a few 4.5s..

Yeah the word classic almost holds no weight anymore, that's why I wait before I call an album that. When I really think about it, I can only claim about 9 or 10 rap albums as classics. Countless classic songs, but very few classic albums.

Can't possibly be a classic if it was just released of if you just heard it even 5-10 times.

There have been plenty of albums that I played through countless times for a month straight loving every minute and then I look back 2 years later and realize I haven't played it since and really had no desire to hear it.

There have also been albums I've casually listened to for a couple months, then realized that even 5 years later I could still play them straight through every time.

The latter are classics, the formers were just good albums

A lot of yall get what a classic is. Most nikkaz have those knee-jerk reactions that just kills all credibility.

RARE are instant classics. They do happen but you can tell when you're listening to something that has separated itself and stands out from the pack. Deeming something classic off one or two listens is something that happens too often IMO

Personal classic and actual classic are very different animals

Man yo joint is a classic, when after 5 or 10 years they play your joint.....and everybody know that words, they on beat, and everybody get a feeling like they 5 or 10 years younger.......

i am a dude who grew up on classic music.......so its a energy that make the music classic.....
its not what the blogs say, its not what the artist say, its not what the overall hip hop opinion is
i figured this out many years ago............

Like for example......Texans may say DJ Screw has Classic material.......New Yorkers will say otherwise........ New Yorkers may say OB4CL is classic and southerns feel otherwise.....

The first time I saw Boyz N The Hood, New Jack City, Goodfellas, Training Day and Menace To Society I knew they were classics...

I didn't have to watch them 20 times and wait for a decade to pass to come to this conclusion...

I don't know why music can't be the same way
