Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
My granddaddy ( RIP) had Alzheimer's.

We had to help him do everything. We had to bathe him and at the end feed him.

It was sad to see a person that was able to walk and talk be reduced to a shell of a man.

It's crazy and unfortunate...

The saddest thing is that she's somewhat aware of it :mjcry:

She asked me like 5 times if I drank coffee in a 5 minute span...

My girl told me that she's slick with it, she asks different ways so that others don't know she's losing it

My wife's paternal grandparents are both going through it. Sad as fukk because they can't even remember each other some days. Imagine being with someone for 60+ years and forgetting who the hell you just woke up next to sometimes.

Is that like dementia?

Can't say I've had to deal with it but I done some work in an old folks home that was for old folks with dementia, was really sad to see the different stages.. One old lady came up to me thinking I was her grandson saying I ain't seen you in a long time and shyt then you see the ones that must be in the latter stage just lying there in bed all day fukked up and not able to move or do anything.. I'm scared that shyt will happen to me one day. :mjcry:

It must be really hard to deal with, we were in there covering their bedroom doors with big vinyl stickers all different colors to help them remember what rooms are theirs (don't know if that actually worked).. This old dude walked up and down the corridor the whole day shouting 'get the fukking doors up' over and over like a fukking parrot.. it was pretty funny for the first 5 mins but after 2 hours of that I nearly lost my damn mind. :martin:

I saw alot of crazy shyt going down that day...:russ:

Grandmother going through it right now. It's very depressing to see an independent woman go through that madness while still believing in her heart of hearts that she's fine despite everything else pointing so far away from that.

For a long time we've been sorta just ignoring it even though we'd all like to say we were just letting her be, but the wondering about, not bathing, leaving the stove/Burners on and putting goddamned rooted up plants, video cassettes and pillow cases in the fridge made that shyt hard to ignore anymore.

And to be honest op I don't think those that know they got it know. In the earliest my Grandmom used to ask the same question over and over, losing damn near all her short term memory. People get mad 'cause they think she's just being annoying....but it's one of the stages, man. Back then she knew her memory was a little bad but she'd still show slight sparks of rational thought until it all went away. S'fukked up. God bless my mom's for stepping up to the plate and getting a sitter who knows her from way back to help us.

My grandfather is 92 and has alzheimers and slight dementia, sad thing as his health is getting bad. According to the doctors where he is, if he gets sick again that might be it.
