He wasn't a real one then either. That was Kanye seeking attention even then. The difference is people agreed with his statements. Looking back at the clips, its obvious.

Funny seeing this thread cause I made the old comment about how I miss listening to old Kanye when he seemed so pure. Just came off like a regular ass dude. Corny punchlines at times but that was part of the appeal. Then we eventually find out he'll do anything to move up in the world, damn near all his lyrics ghostwritten, and straight up for sell it just took the shine off of everything. I listen to the first couple of albums and it's still great music but don't hit the same.

him, Phonte, and big pooh felt like the successors to Phife dawg as the 'regular brotha' MCs, along with slum village. Not even because of backpackerness but because they just seemed authentic and regular guys.

That era is long gone and Kanye is a disgrace
