I be listening to classical on my drive to work. Take the back roads, shyt is peaceful:ahh:

You be listening to that mild, "Everybody in a Tux with a Cumberbund, with programmes on their pleated knees" type shyt. Which is cool, but I hope you switch it up with the type of compositions that make you wanna mainline Morphine, springboard off a biblically accurate angel's head eyesocket and ascend into the heavens with the sole intention of running the fade with God.

I literally just started getting into Classical yesterday and I’m currently making a playlist for it. What are some good songs and pieces y’all recommend I have on there?

The beautiful thing about classical music is that it branches off into so many intense versions, whether it be piano dominated sonatas, multi orchestral pieces or vocal heavy Arias. You'd run the gamut trying to find content. Outside of trawling Youtube recommends from all that's given, do yourself a favour. If you had a childhood growing up that involved old timey looney tunes cartoons, go through a few of those on Youtube or whatever and gleam in the comments which classical piece/pieces they used in it. Perfect example, I posted a piece above that I remembered, damn near note for note based off of this classical gem.

Remember this shyt? :flabbynsick: Little did we know at the time, that we were being indoctrinated with classical in such a way that we wouldn't find it boring, but entertaining within the hijinx and slapstick shown, which in turn gave alot of us a far greater appreciation for classical than we knew.:wow:

Post some shyt that moves you, so we can better tailor the recommends.

My mornings always start with classical, jazz (real jazz, not Kenny G.), or traditional music from another country. It's a great, relaxing way to begin the day.

I love classical music. Played violin and viola all throughout middle and high school.

One of my dreams is to put together a black-only film score orchestra.

I am trying to get into it. Does anyone know how to get them for free? lol

It seems daunting to get into at first, but remember that you already are familiar with a lot of the most famous composers, so just start with them. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, etc. There's a reason why they're universally known. Lol Next thing to think about are whether you enjoy full orchestras, chamber orchestras, smaller ensembles, or solo instrumental pieces. Most composers specialized in writing for one of those four groups, so if you think solo piano music is boring, but think full orchestras are epic, search for composers who wrote lots of orchestral pieces. Probably the most difficult thing about getting into classical is that since performances vary wildly based on the conductor, orchestra, ensemble or soloist, there have been hundreds of times I've not liked a piece when its performed by one person or group, but loved it when played by another.

There are four primary eras of classical music (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century) and generally most people gravitate towards composers from one of the eras. So, if you like a lot of Beethoven and Mozart, for example, it's highly likely most of your favorite music will likely be from the late Classical era.

Baroque music is more technical and a lot of the instruments used are grating to our ears today (organ, harpsichord) - meaning it's fairly hard to get into if you don't listen to classical music analytically.

Classical era music tends to be a bit less technical and has more of a focus on melody, rather than harmonic complexity like baroque era music. This era is a lot easier to get into. Remember what I said about conductors? Herbert von Karajan is one of the GOATs and I feel like he's even got a little soul in his interpretations.

Romantic era music is my favorite. Less technical than baroque and classical and tends to be very passionate and beautiful. My favorite composers from this era are the Russians. This is a familiar piece, but a good example (in my opinion) of a conductor who doesn't have soul. His interpretation is very strict to how it's written. Most people like that, though.

Early Twentieth Century music is similar to Romantic era music. Late Twentieth Century is a bunch of atonal and wannabe-smart trash, in my opinion. The Russians dominated early Twentieth Century classical music too. I couldn't think of a piece that everyone on here would recognize except for Stravinsky's "The Rite of Springs."
