I always felt this way strongly but was afraid of being outcasted which is ironic considering the content of their music :ld:

:scusthov:

exactly

i've always felt like dilla was like the last great hip hop producer; he only got better with time too

to me, his style is like this perfect blend or hybrid of some of the greats that came before him but with his own style

i hear q tip, pete rock, dre, rza and premier when i listen to dilla. he reminds me of prince in that way

prince was inspired and took different (no shark bitin' though lol) things from the styles of artists who came before him and blended it so well

- sly stone
- james brown
- parliament funkadelic
- joni mitchell
- carlos santana

back to jay dee though....

i can hear dre's cripsy (at times sound and hard drums with dilla, pete's 90's jazzy sound intertwined from time to time, q tip's soulfulness, rza's sample driven sound, premier's creativeness with the scratches and acapella knowledge with what he sampled and all etc etc

i love the way dilla was able to incorporate all of those influences and blend or mesh these certain attributes of these producers into a style of his own. that's what an artist is suppose to do, be influence and then take that or those influences to the next level. dilla was music

@Bugsmoran you've probably seen this already but if you haven't, you should definitely check it out. it's a sad watch at times but it's a very, very well done episode of crate diggers on j dilla; they even got "ma dukes" (dilla's mom on here) :mjcry:
