Yes, some of us have family from the South(not me in particular since I was not born in the US) But that's only part of what makes up NYC black culture aside from Harlem.

But we got AAs but it's also largely Caribbean folks out here and increasingly West Africans.

The east coast blacks band together but they don't seem to speak AAVE. They sound like blacks from the east but I don't think they speak AAVE. Even the basic shyt, I haven't heard an auxiliary "ain't", no "y'all", no "folk", no unmarked third person singular verbs, no double negatives, no copula "be's" or none of that shyt.
