cats in here with revisionist history. mj was well respected and loved even by people who couldn't tell a basketball from a cantaloupe. dude had 3 retirement tours and sold out arenas around the league each time like it was the very first retirement. the same way people talk about the warriors making basketball boring. the dominance of the bulls in the 90s made a lot of people apathetic, but when the bulls came to town you best believe that was the only thing going on. and when the playoffs started it was always worth watching.

i understand the :mjpls: mystique around mj. some of it is earned, but a lot of it is either misconstrued or unique to thecoli. it's true mj can be an azzhole and narcissistic, but there's also this perception that mj doesn't care about black people and couldn't care less about our communities or advancement of blacks. there is a knock that he isn't been vocal in speaking against issues like police brutality, inner city violence, racial disparities in almost every walk of life against black people, and i think that's fair to a certain extent. i also understand some people just aren't like that, mj being one of them. they speak with actions not words. now if you look beyond the anecdotal evidence of mj being all about mj and don't care about black people you'll see a different story. as the head of jordan brand he employed more black executives than any other leading sports brand. as majority owner of the hornets he employed more blacks and minorities in executive positions than any other team in sports. he donates a tremendous amount of money and time to charitable organizations and holds camps for kids that he leads yearly. dude is very active in giving back.

i don't worship the dude, because i know how celebs can live a public life and private life that are very different. however i respect his athletic achievements and the charitable contributions. my point with all of this is while it's fun to talk about the :mjpls: moments let's also be reality and acknowledge that he does a lot more than he gets credit for. he can be an azzhole too, but there's more to the man and mystique than 'fukk hip hop' and :mjpls:

This is some bullshyt.

That 96 team was like the beatles.

Plus along with the 2nd 3peat he had arguably the greatest b2b2b string of sneakers that jordan brand ever put out.

The 98 finals were the highest rated in nba history

I could give a chit about the beatles. now if you said that '96 team was like run dmc, you would have a better argument. see where I'm going here?

its not about ratings and all that breh. no offense, but I don't see how you can read the thread title and then come in here arguing with middle America statistics.

btw, I was rooting for the sonics. they had ninjas like shawn kemp & gary payton. that's what I was on.

another guy missing the gist of the discussion.

again, no diss, but you guys are too caught up in mainstream America, which represents the opposite of what Jalen & jacoby are talking about.

I bet most of yall think kobe Bryant had the hood on SMASH back in the day too.

and I didn't say the hood stopped f*ckin with Jordan. but he wasn't popular like he was in the '80s & early '90s, for a number of reason

yall can moan all yall want. we out here.

Lol@ people who talk about loving hip hop post-2010. Just let it go, mane, it's over.:mjlol::snoop:

Also lol@ people shocked a rich nikka born in '63 don't like rap or nikkas who act like rappers.

true. the culture is dead.

that's why people have un-intentionally taken this thread in the opposite direction.

but heres the thing; Jordan played

Jordan is/was god in the hood and like god outside of it to the rest of mainstream. Now, it's true there were many older pro-black types that got on Jordan for not speaking out on pro-black issues but most people didn't care at all and still rocked with him.

I'm not referring to any circle actually, so find another argument. the problem is, this topic clearly just isn't for you.

case in point, sneakers are sneakers. just because you rock somebodys sneakers, it doesn't necessarily mean that youre a fan. theres millions of people rockin jordans that don't watch a lick of basketball.

I keep a pair of Js in rotation. bootlegged but still. and I havnt been a fan of mike since like '93, and I wasn't even rockin his sneakers back then. you see how this works?

I don't even know what the 11s are. I'm not a sneakerhead. but I know Jordan didn't design them chits and I doubt he had any input in the designs. so what is the logic in you even bringing them up?

I luv threads like these. LOL.
