Why do you want to know if it struck a nerve instead of just answering the question? :sas2:

I'm SirBiatch. If I see something silly, I'll comment on it. Everyday Coli shyt :troll:

I thought you bringing up gay shyt outta the blue was cheap, pathetic and a tad suspect. Of course we can spend all day going back and forth about who's really suspect but the fact of the matter is that you brought up unrelated gay shyt outta nowhere. Is what it is :yeshrug:

This is when you have to open your heart to Young Thug, and just embrace the new music for what it is. The boom bap rap is done.

I would agree....IF I listened to bad hip hop. I listen to good rappers who actually have talent and something to say.

No excuse for acting like only bad hip hop is around in 2016. Use the internet nikka.

I find myself listening to soul, funk, old school R&B and even pop

When I listen to soul music I feel like I'm nourished, it's genuine. It's positive

When I hear funk . . it's fun - even disco which is a watered down funk

When I heard R&B it's real . . even pop which is a watered down version of R&B (thematically)

There's something about the genius in simplicity you find in pop music, the universality of each phrase that comprises the lyrics

It touches your soul

. . in hip-hop today I see a race to the bottom as far as morals and intelligence goes. Even a lot of the classic music I grew up to, when you separate it from the entertainment value - the content isn't nourishing to my subconscious, which goes into your well-being

Music I so greatly regarded growing up . . "Gap teeth in your mouth so my dikk's got to fit" . . how can I ride around listening to that as a grown man?

My pure admiration for Dr. Dre that has led to my impartial criticisms for him productivity and status - how can he be proud of his work in music when he sampled a bunch of great music, and surely introduced the sounds to a new generation but really had nothing of substance to add over these songs. If you're not going to improve upon what you're sampling, why do it? His contribution to music has literally been replaying stuff, without that there's really nothing to make note of

Then there's Mac Dre . . I love his work but I've found that most of his fans are literally lacking on an intellectual level. Themes like "Get Stupid" . . why did it surprise me that he ACTUALLY attracted a stupid fan base . . a fan base that is consciously championing ignorance

The intricacy of lyrically inclined rappers is usually a substitute for lackluster songwriting

The pseudo-positive stuff from rappers like Common . . and underground rappers, it all sounds so contrived. I'm not convinced and I feel like they're preaching to me

I'm just not into it anymore. I'll check for it and when the right songs come along I'll nod my head to them but they won't make their way in my playlists

Anyone feel like this?
Seems like u got ur 3rd eye openned or something breh. I got tired of hip-hop during the whole Hip-Hop is Dead era. I just started making playlists. Tappin into different genre's doing my research as far as all the classics. During that decline i just checked for different shyt. Nu-soul, Jazz, House, Broken-Beat, Afro-house, Reggae/Dancehall, Dub-step, Soca, Techno, etc. So many different genre's which made me want to make my own playlists/mixes. Now i probably have over 60 or 70 mixes that ive made over a decade and some change. I think for u the passion of music will never go away. As far as hip-hop maybe you feel like u heard all of it before. So its not innovative and new. Maybe u need to dig deeper than what the surface constantly brings u breh.

@Wally Russell

I feel ya bruh...I still fukk with hip hop today, esp that Pusha Ink, DJ Mustard, New LA shyt, it keeps a man young and fresh

And I still fukk with all the old classics from the 90s I grew up on

But yeah hearing Eazy Es lyrics or some of even Pacs shyt, I get it but sometimes I question its relevance to me as a 32 yr old man

And then , I might be having a kid soon. No way in hell im gonna raise my children on hip hop.

That's where the MJs, Prince etc comes in and all the classic 70-80s funk

And I still listen to other genres now also, it's nothing wrong wit that

If it was made after 2003 I don't check for it. I am still on my Classic Hip Hop shyt.

I have branched out to Classic R&B too, but if I am DJing I most likely go for some Wu, BCC, 41st Side, No Limit, (Old) Cash Money, Alkaholic Crew, Native Tongue, NWA (including all the legacy), and so forth.

New Rap? I feel like I am being Punk'd everytime I listen to a new artist. I keep expecting Alan Fundt to come out. If you get that reference then you prolly old enough to understand my post.

Im in the same boat, lately ive been just using Spotify to listen to old funk and soul records then going from there to find artists and albums i havent heard before. Just feel like the music portion of hip-hop has been pushed aside. I know most of that came from old r&b records but thats an element i find is sorely lacking right now.

I hear what OP saying and i agree about funk and soul. Ain't nothing in hip hop recently doing what Black Messiah done for me :manny:

BUT good hip hop still gets made and i will always love this hip hop shyt. I may dip in and out every while, but i'll never leave. To this day, artists of my generation are still dropping good music and i fukks with some of the newer guys. There's just way too much hip hop being made to not like something and its not even that hard to find. I still get that good feeling, i just don't entertain the weak shyt (in my opinion) .

Seems like u got ur 3rd eye openned or something breh. I got tired of hip-hop during the whole Hip-Hop is Dead era. I just started making playlists.
