What's a good one for around $500-$600.

Used or new idc, I just need it to make beats FL Studio/Fruity Loops and surf the net when I don't feel like using my tablet without lagging.

So it can't be a Mac unfortunately

NO, Yosemite was so full of bugs on release it was almost unusable with those who had problems.

Any laptop with a 1080p screen or higher, 8 GB Ram or higher, and an i5/i7 processor is good. Just depends if you're going for portability or screen size.

Solid state is good too.

Are you looking for a powerful laptop in the 1k range? If you're gonna get a Mac then you're better off getting a powerful regular laptop if you're going to spend that much money....

I just copped this HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop/Tablet 8 Gb Ram 256 SSD for 999$ ..I love it..i was torn between this and the Dell Xps 13..The HP gave me more value for my buck so I went with the HP and no regrets so far.

My homie has this. Great computer. There's a stylus for it too that makes it write like my Surface Pro 3.
