I don't know the exact breakdown of your tax deductions but I'll assume you're single with no dependents so I'd estimate you have around a 19% deduction.
So making $17/hr full time with a 19% tax deduction, you'd be bringing in around $2,200 a month.
Subtract your $700 rent and you'd have around $1500 leftover, obviously you'd need to buy food, etc. but even with those monthly expenses you should still be able to save $584 a month which would give you $7000 in 12 months...
