Rakim writing Summertime for Will Smith is a lesser known fact. But if you listen to the song, it's pretty obvious.

:ehh:

One thing that Townes had to set the record straight about was a long-held rumor that Rakim had ghostwritten Smith’s lyrics on the song. But, as Townes explained, Smith was the sole author.

"Will was always very hyper and I told him, “Bring it back. Vibe with it,”‘ Townes said. ‘And when he did that, everyone was like, “Wow. He sounds like Rakim.” From the first day we played the record for people, they thought it was Rakim. When we first released it, everyone was like, “Did you hear that new song that Rakim did?”‘:yeshrug:

The Mecca of HipHop
Nas ghostwrote for Will Smith on "Big Willie Style"

I saw Shawn Carter credits on the "Still Dre" track in the booklet like Hov just did this dude a favor.

South Philly...all day everyday!
Yep and i'd like to here Jay spittin that verse for Dre cause when you hear the flow, it's clear that it's a Jay written verse. "It's the D-R-E" "It's the R-O-C"

:manny:

Dre probably destroyed the reference track.

Would be interesting though...not as interesting as when I heard Biggie spit "Eating my p*ssy while I watch cartoons" though :skip:

Jay wrote the hook too. If you see snoop in the songwriting credits, that is for the stuff he came up with at the end : "no stems, no seeds, no sticks......"
