I never understood how cats knew all the moves to arcade games back in the day

ill never forget the first time i saw it, i was in high school at this point and i played ALOT of tekken 3, nikkas around here were world champions playing at our arcade (sunnyvale/milpitas golfland/wonder park)

that shyt drove me nuts, i learned about frame counts, truely using just one character and mastering him. it crazy how nikkas from japan/europe came to our arcade just to get it in.

i rarely lost to anyone who wasnt pro or at east close to being pro level.

i aint gonna lie, i miss playing in a crowd, aint nothing like having nikkas line up one by one gettin served. little kids goin to school dreamin about being that nikka at the arcade. sad thing is, by the time i got dope in 96/97 they were starting to die.

to answer yalls question, if you were near a college campus, they would go to the BBS/newsgroups and just download entire movelists, other cats would just get lucky and memorize what the moves were. sometimes they appeared in other magazines and things like that. this is 1993-94 im talking about.

whats crazy is i remember when mortal kombat 3 came out john tobias was complaining that the internet was ruining the special moves because everyone could know everything from an faq. this is 1995 mind you, it was a big deal to now every move/cheat code.

shyt i remember when nuke.com was basically the only website i knew about for gaming. before that it was just keywords on aol.

I wouldn't even play most times I'd just watch in awe. I remember one Saturday in particular being in the Arcade while this cat served everybody for 2 hours straight on Mortal Kombat II.

I remember the first time I saw Mortal Kombat II in arcades shyt hadn't been there for a long time. Dudes already knew all the special moves, fatalities, and everything. I'm standing there like... watching dudes go to work with Jax and Kitana.

Same thing with Killer Instinct seemed like everybody knew how to do these wild ass combos with everybody. Remember one day a dude gave me that work with Cinder nikka did like a 80 hit ultra combo.

I read Gamepro like everybody during the 90s but I don't think they was giving out complete move lists like that to games in the arcades.

I guess dudes just stayed in the arcades and tried different shyt but I was always amazed @ the talent I saw back in the 90s with those fighting games. If you would see an Asian in the military you already knew you was about to get that work in street fighter II.

Another instance was when Mortal Kombat first dropped in theaters. At the time I hadn't saw Mortal Kombat 3 yet just still pics in magazines. Seeing it in motion and nikkas turning into animals and doing all these wild ass combos was crazy. Uppercutting nikkas to different stages was like ..Nostalgia is crazy brehs. I miss those days of gaming I would give up all this shyt to go back to those days.

First time I saw Lee on run up a nikka body and slam on him in Tekken...
