I thought that was changed with the CARD act of 2009. Your cousin should have been giving a discount for cash, then charging 'regular' for credit and debit swipes. But yeah, he's not supposed to add a transaction fee anymore, and yes he can get in trouble for doing it.

I mentioned earlier that he could get in trouble for the wording. Someone I know almost got fukked because of wording. You can say it's a 50 cent discount with cash but not a 50 cent charge with credit. If someone is gonna sue for wording then they a real scumbag. The reason why I'm arguing is because some posters are arguing that these folks are robbing people blind when that's certainty not the case at all.

2. depending on your customer base you can:

• if its a returning customer base (a local place with a lot of repeat business), streamline your prices
• if its a non-returning customer base like a truck stop, you do what you want and risk angry a few people here and there

3. just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. And yes, CC companies make money. You're surprised?
