edit: and to correct/inform OP gauchos wasnt a tournament Gauchos was a team but they held tournaments as well as traveled all over the city and out of town to play as did other squads..with the major teams like Gauchos and riverside you had the A,B and C squads obviously A squad being most prestigous..

other notable teams then: Riverside (cam also said lorch touched mase thats the team he was speaking of), Milbank, young life (they killed it with the purple and yellow laker colors and warmups)
other notable tournaments were
Milbank, Laguardia house, each one teach one, City wide, Rucker, Douglass, soul in the hole(brooklyn), PAL, Bronx River, 145th street of top of the head...almost forgot Kingdome

Yeah real talk Douglass projects and Goat park (earl the goat manigult) on like 98th st outside the projects had some of the best pickup games in the city nikkas from all over would come out there...Douglass was the first place I ever played for boonks and loss
there was actually 2 different tournaments I remember playing around there...the official Douglass center tourney behind building 860 on 104st and the Ray Diaz classic on the other side of the projects behind building 826 on 100st..Douglass is where I also met and later played for Book aka Emanuel from the Arizona ncaa FBI scandal
