but Devante is a fukking genius though, he wrote and produced some of the best r&b of the 90s. Kci & jojo, while great vocalists, were there to just sing

and his chord progressions are mind blowing, extremely extravagant with ridiculous alterations/inversions

DeVante changed the R&B production game for good.

Great producers like Rodney Jerkins, the Underdogs, etc all took elements of what DeVante did. Dudes like Tank still mimmick him.....hell that TGT album bit some DeVante's production hard on some songs.

He used grimy sounding instruments, played church chords over them and layered it with all types of smooth synths. Like the level of detail is mind-blowing.

IF DeVante could sing he could've been a solo star b/c he knew exactly how to arrange songs for K-Ci & Jojo to sound amazing over. And he wrote those songs.

Devante is really a musical genius, multi - instrumentalist, arranger, songwriter, etc, he did it all.

His potential was ruined by the rise to fame and cut short by getting caught in the vices of the music industry.

20 consistent years of Devante would def give Prince a run for his money.
