720p to 1080p is not negligible, esp on larger screens where the increased resolution pays off. We still haven't gotten native 1080p content from cable and satellite providers.

Gaming on pcs, you can tell the difference in resolutions, so stop these that you can't tell the difference.

isn't 4K and above resolutions just overkill though? At the distances people sit and the screen sizes they have from what I understand the benefit is lost on them.

No content is the killer here. Same thing that happened to 3D.
