Pretty much. People that do crazy stuff like this aren't rational in the first place and aren't even thinking about what punishment they'll get.
All that "tough on crime" shyt would just end up mostly affecting blacks and latinos anyway.

Let me ask you this. Someone walks into a daycare and kills 10 children and police know they did it.....you think that person deserves the right to food, a trial, shelter and then live out their days in such convenience until they die?
Are you considering the children they kiled in cold blood? How they may have suffered for hours before dying? How many families they ruined?

I hear you in regards to that, but I'm not even talking about that.
But you have to consider all of the pros and cons when dealing with legislation. Sure people who kill children deserve to fukking die a horrible death, but there's a reason why it's called civilization and there's a reason why your "perfect" solution will never happen.
The "justice" system is harsh enough.
We need to be moving more towards rehabilitative justice rather than this "zero tolerance" crap.
And torture which doesn't deter crime and is incredibly inhumane, doesn't fit into this.
The US needs to abolish solitary confinement, especially for juveniles, it's the only legalized form of torture we have.

What will torturing do? If losing your freedom for more than 1 day doesn't curb crime, neither will torture.
Yet we still have solitary confinement
If you really advocate this kind of policy then you need to be thinking about what would actually happen if this were legal.
Otherwise it's just a knee-jerk reaction.
