Speaking of Pudgee the phat b*stard, this was my shyt. Pudgee was nice on the mic, and funny. If he wouldn't have went on Ricki lake, he could have avoided the rumor, and still probably be widely known outside of NYC to this day. The industry did him wrong, BUT he should have known what royalties were by 2001, that is just crazy

That era was so lovely!

Those old heads were dumb also, how could they not want to be on top of their business?

It's one thing being ignorant but literally not knowing how your own contract works after 10 years is too delusional and stupid for me. They unfortunately deserve to get robbed if that was their attitude.

I feel you man. :to:

This post is funny because the poster child for this generation of Lil face tatted drug addicts lil Wayne is in a court battle over his finances after 10+ years.

Kodak Black asked Master Plan to look at his paperwork and when P went to do it Kodaks people wouldn't send P the paperwork and Kodak got mad after P told him his price to do it and you never heard anything about it from Kodak again despite the huge red flag that his people wouldn't let a guy who knows the business see his contract for him.

XO Tour Life was a song Lil Uzi Vert made and pushed without label help which is why it has two videos. One without label help and a second with the label trying to push him. He made about 28% of the streaming profits for a song he did 100% of.

What's their excuses for getting raped in 2018 with all the information one Google search away from their fingertips? It's not a old head/young head thing. It's a business education thing.

The truth is that very few artists get robbed, but damn near all of them got jerked at some point. Hell, the industry is nothing but high I'm strictly talking about the industry and not hadnshake/ya mans cousin is the manager type deal.

Getting robbed is legally being owed something and not getting it. Getting jerked is shytty paperwork, on top of shytty paperwork with clauses that you didn't understand that supersede the clause you did understand. TLC had a shytty deal from the gate. They were getting what $.03-04 with a 3-way split before expenses. Their expenses were high - the label had them covered.

Some ghostwriters get upfront money (work for hire), some negotiate royalties. It's case by case. It doesn't matter who she spoke too, if her contract doesn't give her royalties, it doesn't matter.

You sign a contract and labels don't have to renegotiate. Is it in their best interest to keep an artist happy and content with working with them, especially a cash cow - sure. Do they have to? Nope.

its the same with the Boxing Game in 2018 you still have boxers enSLAVED to rape deals by the same "crooks" from the past...(Top Rank/arum...Golden Boy/De la hora...Main Event/Duva)

just recently Pacquaio just celebrated being FREE from his Bob A rum slave deal after over a decade of financial irregularities and tax problems and massive debt....

Champion fighter Terrance Crawford who is 32 and 0 went from being a HBO ..A card fighter to now having to fight on a ESPN app controlled by Bob Arum..

Pathetic

I agree.
I'm not even in the music business but I knew this as a young teen after reading about how Suge was jerking 2Pac out of his contract then reading about how 50's career began until he met Eminem, Chris Lighty as well as interning at Columbia Records when his first album got shelved in order to learn the business *whilst still being an artist and under contract voluntarily.

Then you have Killa Cam and Jim Jones being taken under the wing by Dame Dummy and it was a wrap they shared game with everyone. The early 00s were a time of entrepreneurship so it breaks my heart when I read about the GOATs still being so dumb.

It happens to the best of them. My favourite is MJ got fukked over until he got out of the Motown deal then his father taught him the business and he went on to own half of Sony BMG. MJ went from being an uneducated bum to the most business savvy artist in history. His estate sold it back to Sony now but whilst he was alive he couldn't be fxcked with.

That's what these guys don't get. People who don't know their business are subject to getting their business spoon-fed to them from people who do know the business. Ain't a age thing. Instead of learning why it happened to others they just say shyt like that won't happen to me and flash their money phone they made while their label execs are buying a new mansion off the same thing.

no sir..that's not true at all.................

in fact the "rap game" definitly had infrastructure back then...i would say based on my experiences almost TOO MUCH :whew:

you have to realize unlike today where you have basically only 3 major labels (sony, warner, universal) whom work in cahoots with each other swapping label presidents...a&r's ..reps and legal counsel

back then you had 5...(cbs/sony,bmg, universal, emi, warner)along with huge radio conglomerates (emmis, cbs, cummulus, clear channel) along with teams of radio consultants dictating what gets on air and what doesn't..

like the a$$hole who chastised my boss (program director/dj) for allowing me to spin You Must Learn by Krs One WITHOUT his consent on a small AM radio station in georgia............ :snoop:

yeah the infrastructure was full of BURERACACY and RED TAPE..........unlike today where a young cat can say FUKK THE POLITICS and just upload his shyt to YOUTUBE or SOUNDCLOUD and get heard!

and rap back in that day from 1980 on up until the mid 90s was basically regulated to only nightime airplay with the legendary mixshows like the Red Alert Show....Chuck Chillout .......and the infamous Juice Crew led Rap Attack which Shante and Shan was heavily featured on....

it was VERY POLITICAL........... and the PAYOLA was strong...

JUICE CREW to be honest inspite of thier OBVIOUS TALENT (kane, shan, biz, g rap, marley , master ace) definitly benifted from having Fly Ty their Label CEO being executive producer as well of the WBLS "mr magic rap attack show"...so it was like they didn't even have to FIGHT for airplay like most rappers cause they already had first dibs on it... :manny:

and BDP was no different.......KRS and SCOTT LA ROCK had RED ALERT in thier pocket....he even became KRS's tour deejay after La Rock passed away........so this is why the BRIDGE WARS was intense cause not only you had BDP vs. JUICE CREW it also pitted the two urban stations against each other for NYC rap supremacy WBLS vs KISS FM....

although i did love the "entertainment value" of it.......i can't like the infrastucture of rap at the time was basically it's not what you know as far as TALENT or knowing how to SPIT BARS or MOVE THE CROWD...but WHO YOU KNOW (networking,,,,relationships)

that's why i LAUGH when people love to speak so passionatly about the "culture" of hip hop "back in the day"...

PUHLEEZE :mjlol:.... it was PURE BUSINESS....

hip hop STOPPED being a culture once it left the parks (70's) and got a BARCODE slapped on it and was made available as product for radio play and distribution in 1980....

so i can understand both ROXANNE SHANTE's and SHAN'S frustation.....

it was ALL A DREAM as BIGGIE said...
i salute your wisdom, however i would like to comment on a few things you brought up, A= there was no war btwn bls and kiss fm because bls had a hip hop collection that destroyed kiss on air. B most hip hop artist were not asleep on the wheel and made sure their money was correct because they had a family to support like kool moe dee , ice t, krs one just to name a few

They removed Lisa off several songs she wrote, recorded and produced.

Not saying this to garner sympathy.. But I got respect for anyone that can bounce back from that.
