Why young folk dont vote

Young people don't vote because they see both parties as corrupt, so they wish to vote independent, but then everyone tells them that voting independent is a waste vote.
Which is basically telling them that them voting will mean nothing.

So then they figure why waste the time

This! It’s en vogue to be vocal about equality, diversity, acceptance, etc., so only the loudest side is heard. A lot of conservative young folks are empowered to be vocal so they keep their opposing views to themselves.

I’m on a board that’s mainly frequented by young tech workers (20-40 yrs old)...tech, the industry that’s supposed to be sooo liberal, yet over half the board is centrist to conservative and they speak about how their views aren’t welcome in the workplace yet progressive liberal views are able to be freely spoken about. That, along with the 16 election, was a wake up call to me. stop thinking old school conservative views didn’t make their way down to gen y and z because some supposed psychographics say we’re more liberal

And the thing is, it's quite dangerous and scary. It's one thing to know people who openly speak shyt and other to not know about them until they come out to vote.

A lot of younger people in progressive parts will not talk about politics or won't confess to liking conservatives in fear of laughs and bullying.... but best believe they WILL come out and vote. Issue is no polls will account for them because they will be quiet.

This is why imo the clown we have in the white house will win another term. All those people on the fence will be swayed more by being ostracized when expressing some interest in republican party, rather than by actual agenda.

Exactly. That’s why I’ve said if you want to know how people feel you can’t judge by polls, you need to read the comment sections of these news platforms and Facebook and instagram. When hiding behind a screen that’s when people feel emboldened to tell how they really feel. That’s when you start to see these peoples views.

Yup. You don’t have to look any further than this message board. My social circle on fb, IG, and twitter is super liberal so I’d get fried for speaking my true feelings about immigration or LGBT rights (I support their marriage but foh with some of that other stuff). I still vote blue so I guess it doesn’t matter but ain’t nobody tryna argue with folks on social media when they can just keep to themselves.

Only thing is a lot of them are quiet about it

Of course many still do vote conservative, it’s a bipartisan system, and the Dems are not getting 90 percent margins with millennials. But it’s indisputable that the plularity, who do vote, lean Dem. Doesn’t mean all are very progressive, but generally they’re more likely to be than other age groups.
