WHAT BASKETBALL SKILLS
DOES RUSS HAVE TO CAUSE
YOU TO SAY SOMETHING SO SILLY?
HES A GREAT ATHLETE WITH
AN ENDLESS MOTOR
WHO HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO
DOMINATE THE BALL.
HES NOT A SKILLED BASKETBALL
PLAYER AT ALL AND
HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST IQS IN
NBA HISTORY.
DAME IS CLEARLY THE
BETTER PLAYER AT THEIR PEAKS.

Their peaks overlapped for about three years, 2016-19. You could argue for either so essentially its a matter of preference. Westbrook actually won an MVP during their overlapping peaks, and was a Top 5 finish in the only year Dame was ('18)...
Westbrook won a scoring title and two assist titles during this stretch, which is a reminder Dame has never led The League in anything...
Russ' Thunder went out in Rd1 three years in a row, average 48 wins/year. Dame's Blazers bounced OKC one of those years but in this same span of time Blazers won 47.7 wins/year, and were out in Rd1 the other two years. We all know that '19 WCF run was lucky, it counts for Dame but it was unusual...
So basically we're talking about two players who have the same relative impact on winning, which isn't great, neither are high level winning basketball players. And we're talking about both at the absolute peaks of their games, so it's a preference in play style...
Raw stats, 2016-19 Russ was 26.8/10.6/10.4, on 433/315/766 shooting, 25.6 PER, 29.9 WS, .172 WS48. In the playoffs he was 29.8/10.9/9.5 on 384/312/824 shooting, 21.3 PER, 0.8 WS, .060 WS48....
2016-19 Dame was 26.5/4.7/6.5 on 443/366/908 shooting, 24.3 PER, 35.1 WS, .205 WS48. In the playoffs he was 25.6/4.7/5.8 on 411/350/859 shooting, 18.4 PER, 1.5 WS, .077 WS48...
Again we are talking about two guys with the same relative impact on winning. That "who has more basketball skills" thing is irrelevant when the guy with the alleged deeper skillset can't affect winning, but since you brought skills up, give me Russ still with both at the peak of their powers----->Russ' transition scoring and ability to attack the basket in the half-court are All-Time elite amongst point guards, but let me guess, these aren't skills that matter to you? Dame also never in his life has a defensive highlight, and while Peak Russ wasn't some watershed defender he was dogged and just more of a hustler with better effort on that end...
Even before he started sharking for triple doubles, Russ was an All-Time rebounding point, and his passing is more aggressive than Dame's. Neither of these guys could ever be the best player on a championship team, so I'm taking Russ with the caveat that he doesn't necessarily affect winning more than Dame, and Dame does some things better...
Russ to this point was a better player for longer, he was the second best player on a Finals team which is not something we saw from Dame when he was a #2, and you can shyt on his accolades but the accolades came because he's an All-Timer. You can keep Dame, an inefficient chucking guard who is a career negative on defense with no impact on winning besides shooting surges---->he has three worthy playoff moments in his career with more than that many faceplants, this guy is the definition of Regular Season Warrior...
I'll keep the guy with the higher motor, better all around game...
