My point was, Mariah has had far bigger singles than "Obsessed". It was light work for a Mariah single, when she has countless #1's. That song wasn't one of them.
And again, nobody ever said artists completely stopped using autotune in 2009 or after "DOA" stopped using it.
. The most that was said is that it wasn't as big of a thing as it was in 2006-2008.

no. he just very smart/calculated and he had a way of spotting trends that were about to go out of style, and attaching himself to its downfall by denouncing it at the perfect time.
he did it with jerseys, which were ridiculously trendy. it was bound to go down within a year. he just made its downfall worse than it shouldve been.
ACGs had timbs on the ropes. he thought timbs were finished.
i remember jay was recording an autotune song for BP3 actually. but between autotune becoming an inflated bubble(like jerseys) and his vendetta against ron browz, he tried to denounce autotune.

I have no idea how people are misremembering autotune getting bigger almost immediately after Jay attempted to denounce it. The younger dudes coming up weren't giving a shyt about Jay trying to denounce it. I was 21/22 during that era and I was pretty amazed that they basically blew off Jay doing that.
