But rappers are writing songs, hence they're song writers, and as far as i'm concerned no matter how many excellent punchlines Big L had, his album wasn't rapped or put together nearly as well as the rest of his contemporaries on any level.
Of course now that I know it was meant to come out in 93 I'm giving it more slack, but when people want to constantly argue he should be on top 10 lists, that's the album i'm going to have to use for comparisons.
I don't kno why people are up in arms about Big L not being considered one of the top ten all time. He had a good debut but it wasn't classic and he died right when he was on the verge of blowing up. Tbh dude was an underground rapper which isn't a knock on him but it kinda excludes him from this debate

And ain't nothing wrong with using the term songwriters. I just never heard that before in reference to hip hop

Eminem still has a label which is putting out music. And he has a radio station. Snoop is Uncle Snoop. He's an icon and a cornerstone of hip hop. He's the most recognizable face in the game to this day. Too Short just had the biggest hit of his career just a few years ago. Ghost is still very productive. He's been the most consistent rapper in the goat group

DMX is tied to one era and you could make the argument 50's name belongs on there before his. The production is his albums are very dated

G Rap was left off simply becuz there weren't enough slots and somebody like Kane left a more lasting impression imo. But don't worry they'll be a spinoff of this thread

ehh is this supposed to be a goat list or a list of old rappers still lingering around like :flabbynsick: and/or have a couple of nice business ventures going?

50 cent before DMX?

I wasn't arguing G.Rap over kane. I called out the names that didn't belong.

you said it yourself that Eminem has no classics. so how is he on the list?

okay breh. its your list. I'm not tryna down you, but I just don't see the logic. feel free to give me hell in my list threads. its nothing personal.

It's about overall careers. If you would rather have DMX's career over Snoop, Short, and Em you lost

Em not having any classic is what will keep him out. But you can't deny how huge he was and the run he had. I mean dude did have a movie loosely based on his life

Do we have to pick from the poll, or can we submit our own?

@BmoreGorilla I read the OP but I have some confusion

Am I supposed to be voting for my top 10 from the list or rappers on the list that's in my top 10?

Some people seem to be voting their top 10 from the list meanwhile only 5 of these were in my top 10 list so I voted for 5

Sorry if I make no sense lol

Em is top ten regardless how shytty he sounds now

The Eminem Show is one of my favorite albums when I want to listen to technical excellence. Prime Eminem did insane things on the microphone, I don't think anyone could reject that. Say What You Say and Soldier are two of my favorite songs of all-time.

Eminem produced the majority of that album too btw. It's his best album by far IMO. Eminem got to the top based off of his skin color, but he didn't stay there purely because of that. Dude was a killer. There's other reasons I leave off my top 10 though.

Hometown of Cherokee at Law
Nas
Jay
Big
Pac
Cube
Common
Ghostface
Kool G. Rap

That's basically my top 8 in no order (outside of Nas and Jay).

Rakim, Scarface, LL, KRS, Snoop are rappers whose catalogues I've only scratched the surface on but ones I respect for factors like longevity, skill, and impact.

Em is objectively in the mix also.
