seeing how sex is not only something that we want (like "drugs" or material addictions), it's also essential to our survival which is why it's the easiest one to reach for IMO, and it doesn't help that we place so much emphasis on it in a negative light, also what is or isn't promiscuous is relative to the individual and the culture they were reared in, this would be a different conversation in Europe, it would be a different conversation in a different time period
